About Forest Road Day Surgery

Designed for your comfort, safety and convenience, Forest Road Day Surgery is an accredited, architect-designed, purpose-built facility for ophthalmic surgery, based in Sydney.

Fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, the day hospital provides a variety of surgical and vision correction procedures. These include cataract and laser cataract surgery, refractive lens exchange, corneal transplantation, glaucoma management and pterygium surgery.

We make it our priority to put you at ease as soon as you step through our doors. The day surgery consists of a quiet and calming waiting area, an operating theatre equipped with the latest ophthalmic technology, and a peaceful and spacious recovery area where patients can feel at ease after their procedure.

Getting to Forest Road Day Surgery

By car

There are over 200 parking spaces in the building complex (once you enter the car park, follow the blue and yellow Vision Eye Institute signs). Street parking is also available on Forest Road and Durham Street (please check the parking signs – a 2-hour limit generally applies).

By public transport

Bus routes 452 (Beverly Hills to Rockdale via Kingsway West Shops, Hurstville and Bexley) and 453 (Percival Street to Rockdale) depart the city approximately every 20 minutes and stop at the corner of Forest Road and Hudson St (approx. 1-minute walk to our location).

You can also reach the clinic via the T4 (Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra) train line. Allawah Station is located at the end of Roberts Lane, approximately 7 minutes’ walk away, and Hurstville Station is located at the end of Ormond Parade, approximately 10 minutes’ walk away.

Disability access

Our day surgery is located on the ground level and is easily accessible by people with limited mobility. There is also lift access from the carpark.

    Forest Road Day Surgery was designed after comprehensive consultation with patients and surgeons regarding various aspects of the facility – from the colour scheme to furniture selection (including patient trolleys) to spatial requirements in the theatre, laser and recovery areas. Our waiting areas even feature special acoustic treatments to ensure a quiet and calm environment for patients and carers.

  • Is there parking available at Forest Road Day Surgery?

    Forest Road Day Surgery is located within Hurstville’s East Quarter development, with more than 200 secure parking spaces available in the building complex. Enter via 103 Forest Road and follow the blue and yellow Vision Eye Institute signs.

    Street parking is also available on Forest Road and Durham Street (please check the parking signs carefully as a 2-hour limit generally applies).

  • Are there any on-site facilities for my carer while they are waiting?

    Forest Road Day Surgery is located in the new East Quarter development, which features a number of retail outlets. In addition, Forest Road is one of the main commercial strips in Hurstville, and two major shopping centres (Westfield Hurstville and Hurstville Central) are less than 10 minutes from the clinic by foot. Buses also run regularly along Forest Road.

Dr Jason Cheng

Ophthalmology

Dr Jason Cheng is a glaucoma specialist, having completed two glaucoma subspecialty fellowships, and is actively involved in research projects in this area. Dr Cheng is also a highly experienced cataract surgeon.

Dr Tess Huynh

Ophthalmology

Dr Tess Huynh has over 16 years of experience as a cataract, corneal and refractive surgeon, including routine and complex cataract surgery, corneal cross-linking, pterygium surgery and corneal transplantation. Dr Huynh performs LASIK, SMILE and ASLA laser eye surgery and also treats more general eye conditions.

Dr Gary Schiller

Ophthalmology

Dr Gary Schiller has expertise in treating a range of eye conditions, particularly glaucoma, cataracts and medical retinal conditions (including diabetic eye disease). He also performs reconstructive surgery (oculoplastics).

Dr Michael Wei

Ophthalmology

Dr Michael Wei is a highly experienced ophthalmologist who specialises in retinal and macular disorders, and has subspecialty fellowships in both medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery. He has expertise in complex vitreoretinal conditions, intravitreal injections, retinal laser treatment, and complex cataract surgery. Dr Wei is fluent in Mandarin and Hokkien/Taiwanese dialects.
